Team Sarcoma Adult Bone Cancer Survivors
Ashley Frost organized a Team Sarcoma 2006 initiative event for Adult Bone
Cancer Survivors. Adult Bone Cancer Survivors is a group of adults from all
over the world who have been diagnosed with bone sarcoma. Their mission is
to personally support others who are dealing with bone cancer and its
effects. The walk in Goodlettsville, Kentucky was held in honor of Frank
Shafer, who was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September of 2005. Due to the
large size of the tumor, Frank has lost his left leg and has been has been
hospitalized undergoing treatment for nearly 10 months. His life as a
typical, fun loving 26 year old disappeared, as he has been fighting every
day to survive. They walked with the goal of developing better treatments
that will lead to longer and improved lives for people like Frank.
After the walk, Ashley wrote and told us that 43 people participated in the
walk. Earlier, she had written to Mary Sorens, the founder of Adult Bone
Cancer Survivors, who joined us in Denmark, "Hey! I'm so glad you all had a
good trip! The walk here was amazing! We had a good turn out and we raised
$2500!! And I still have a few checks that I've been told are in the mail! I
could not believe how generous people were. It was such a rewarding
experience, thank you for telling me how to get involved! I'm already
talking to the philanthropy chair of ADPI (the sorority I was in at
Western). We are working on doing another walk as one of their community
service events!"
Here are some
photos that were taken during the event.
