Team Sarcoma Utah
Dr. R. Lor
Randall, Director of Sarcoma Services and Susie Crabtree, RN Study
Coordinator of Sarcoma Services at the Hunstman Cancer Institute worked
together to organize the Team Sarcoma Utah event as part of the Team Sarcoma
2006 Initiative. They used the word "Utah" to indicate that not only was the
Hunstman Cancer Institute involved but also several other health care
providers, namely, Sarcoma Services, University Health Care, and the
Intermountain Primary Children's Medical Center.
They had planned
a hike in the Salt Lake City area, After the event was over Susie sent us
note that stated, in part, "Bruce we had sixty participants and a great
time. Walked or rode to the top of the mountain (six miles) and had a BBQ.
... We had families, family’s friends, patients, patients family, physicians
and family, nurses, sarcoma staff, HCI staff of all walks and it was great
fun. Thank you for the invitation.
Later. this note
was followed up with a more detailed accounting, "On July 7th at 6pm a group
of sixty plus hikers started up City Creek Canyon in Salt Lake City for a
six mile hike to the top of the trail for a BBQ and to celebrate Sarcoma
Awareness Week. Patients, families of present and former patients,
physicians, nurses and health care providers of all entities walked side by
side as long as their strength would last. We had transport up and down the
trail for those that tired easily. Some walked, rode, then walked again;
some walked all the way; some rode most of the way, and some biked. We met
at the top at 7:30 for a BBQ, made new friends and mingled. We then took
pictures and finished with a group picture where almost all walkers (that
weren’t hiking along the river) participated. It was a beautiful setting and
a great time was had by everyone with the promise by all to meet again at
the same time next year."
Here are a few
photos that were taken during the event.
