Team Sarcoma/KeeperEdge for a Cure
KeeperEdge is a soccer camp for goal keepers, The coaches
and participants dedicated their entire week of training to the cause of
sarcoma awareness and a young soccer player who is being treated for Ewing's
sarcoma. Natasha Pitcock and her husband Nathan, one of the coaches at the
camp, organized this event as part of Team Sarcoma 2006. Here are some excerpts
from a note that that Natasha sent us after
the camp was over, "KeeperEdge for a Cure was a success! In the week before
the camp we sent out the sarcoma facts sheet, the donation form, and an FAQ on what
we were doing and why we were doing it to the entire KeeperEdge mailing list
(about 300 people). We also sent a press release to the local media. At camp
there were 48 campers and six coaches and they all got the sarcoma facts
sheet and a "Sarcoma Knows No Borders" bracelet at the registration desk when they checked in. Most of
them had their parents with them and many said they had received the
information the week before. On Thursday at camp the staff all wore their
Team Sarcoma T-shirts and Nathan talked to the guys about sarcoma and
explained Lucas’s situation. He said they were all very receptive. All in all, I think it was a
huge success as far as education goes and we’d like to extend our efforts
further next year. Now that Nathan’s been through the process once I think
he understands the mission better and we’ll both be able to put in more on
the front end the next time. The great thing is there are more people out
there who know about sarcoma because of this. Hopefully because of that,
sarcoma patients will be able to reap the benefits further down the road. As I
said before, we’d love to take part in this again next year."
Here are some photos that they sent us from the KeeperEdge camp.
